Head to Teddy Bear Cove & More Beautiful Washington State Beaches Near our B&B

Teddy Bear Cove is one of the best places to explore Chuckanut Bay’s shoreline. The area encompasses more than nine acres and 1,430 feet of shoreline. While the origin of the name Teddy Bear Cove remains a mystery, a fun fact is that the beach was once known as the area’s nude beach, which is no longer the case. There’s a relatively easy under two-mile hike passing two rocky outcrop beaches, sandstone formations, and up on a ridge covered in Cedars and wind-blown Madrona trees.

The beaches in Washington offer a unique experience, especially for those coming from warmer climate areas. Our Pacific Northwest beaches vary from smooth, silky sand to barnacle-covered rocky expanses—some of the best offer a bit of both of those and everything in between. The crisp waters stay chilly year-round, but that rarely stops beachgoers (especially the little ones) from dipping their toes or kayaking.

The summer heat is just around the corner, and if you’ve yet to solidify your vacation plans, heading North to Bellingham and the surrounding areas is such a treat. Our mini bed and breakfast resort near Bellingham is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle. We offer two cozy B&B suites, a multi-room rental cottage, and a glamping tent for a luxurious camping experience. Check out our upcoming availability and book your lodging today!

They are ideal for beachcombing, tide pooling, and simply relaxing while taking in the panoramic vistas and vibrant sunsets that are characteristic of this region.

Here are some of the best beaches in Washington State to explore during your stay:

  1. Teddy Bear Cove: One of the best ways to enjoy this beautiful shoreline on Chuckanut Bay is to hit the North Chuckanut Mountain trailhead. There are great spots to stop off for a picnic, beach comb, and relax before you head up the incline to the ridge trail. This hike gives you a bird’s eye view of Teddy Bear Cove.
  2. Larrabee State Park: Set on the seaward side of Chuckanut Mountain near Bellingham, Larrabee State Park is known for its picture-perfect views of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands. This lovely state park offers everything from day hikes and birdwatching to kayaking and picnicking. You can even keep time by the trains, as the tracks run right along the ridge just above the beach here.
  3. Locust Beach: This 200-acre beach and tidelands in northeast Bellingham are great places to spend a day. This is one of the lesser-known beaches in Washington, so you’ll likely run into locals during your adventure. Take your time searching for treasures washed up on the shore. During the summer, this is an ideal place to take little ones, as the sands of the Nooksack River Delta stretch out for hours of adventures.
  4. Boulevard Park: For stunning waterfront views of Bellingham Bay, it is an ideal spot for picnics, leisurely walks, and breathtaking sunsets from the boardwalk. The park’s extensive trails connect to the South Bay Trail, perfect for biking and jogging, while the playground and beach areas provide fun for families.
  5. Lake Paddon Park: There are a few lakes in the area that are also great places to relax by the water this summer. Lake Paddon is a great place for paddling, swimming, hiking, biking, and disc golf.
  6. Lake Whatcom: A family-friendly area on the North end of Lake Whatcom is excellent for swimming, picnics, and playing at the park. With the recent addition of swim docks to the lakefront, you’ll find lovely swimming opportunities, and there are lifeguards on duty during the warmer months.
